Northern Xposure: Packers Recap

25 09 2012

Some mornings you wake up in your shower fully clothed, with the cold water running, cans of Schlitz floating around you like sailboats on Lake Michigan. You roll out of the tub and try to get your bearings while sidestepping greasy Rocky Roccoco boxes. You hear the faint sound of Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You,” still playing on loop from the night before. And then you sit on your couch, stare into the middle distance, and think about what we’re all doing here, just molecules spinning and bouncing off each other with no regard for justice, emotion, or man’s search for meaning.

No, I’m not talking about the time I found out Elton John didn’t write his lyrics. I’m talking about last night, when the Seahawks beat the Packers, 14-12, by throwing an interception on the last play of the game to Packers’ defensive back M.D. Jennings. By now there’s nothing I can add that you don’t already know: the “spontaneous possession” rule, the phantom pass interference, and the soft roughing the passer call. You saw it and I saw it. The only thing we can do now is regroup, organize some candlelight vigils, and do our best to remain emotionally stable. I wonder if It Gets Better.
